What to consider before purchasing a belly wrap…

  • Make sure it is comfortable for your body shape – different wraps fit different body shapes. You need to wear a wrap as much as possible, so you want to be comfortable.
  • Make sure it provides the right level of support you require – consider if this is your first baby or last and how bad your diastasis is.
  • Make sure it fits correctly – a wrap that is too large will not provide adequate support and may require the purchase of a second size. A wrap that is too tight will be too uncomfortable to wear.
  • Suitability for post-caesarean – if you are having a caesarean, certain wraps are more suitable and comfortable.

The Belly Wrap Reviews…

First things first! what you need to know about belly wraps.

Post pregnancy belly wrap selection may seem a be a bit confusing, especially when looking at the various options we have for helping you lose your mummy tummy. Don’t be dismayed. They will all help your post birth stomach, however, each has different features and benefits. But before reading our post pregnancy belly wrap review; first a few things you need to know before selecting the right product for you:

  1. All of the Belly wraps are designed to be worn as soon as possible post birth (ideally within the first 8 weeks or so). If you had your last baby several months or years ago, the wraps will still provide excellent back and abdominal support, as well as supporting your muscles as you partake in exercise etc, however, the results of a shrinking post birth stomach will be much less. The idea of a post pregnancy belly wrap is to compress the damaged muscles by drawing them back towards the spine and supporting them as they re-strengthen. Wraps help hide and reduce the look of the post birth stomach.
  2. It is important to realise, that although all the brands focus on creating a comfortable wrap to wear, at the end of the day, you are wrapping an extra garment around your middle and it may take a few days to get used to.
  3. If you live in a warm climate, unfortunately no tummy wrap is air-conditioned. Normally we don’t put on extra clothing when we are hot, so you may find that wearing any of the wraps can be quite warm. The Cinch Belly Wrap and the Bamboo and BFF Belly Bandits are the most heat friendly, as the Cinch wrap has a special breathable fabric, and Bamboo is naturally more moisture wicking than other fabric types.

In the below post pregnancy belly wrap review, you will find a brief summary of each of the products we sell, as well as a star rating based on my personal experience and the feedback from customers. Each product is rated on its overall comfort and breathability, support, visibility under clothing, and longevity (how long it will fit you). 5 stars means excellent, and 1 star means very poor.If you still have questions regarding the best product for you, or you need further clarification on anything in this belly wrap review, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit our Belly Wrap FAQ’s.

The Solidea recovery leggings and capris work in very much the same way as the well known SRC recovery shorts.  However these recovery products offer a much higher level of medical grade 18/21mmHg graduated compression. They provide compression to your weakened muscles without supporting them to the point that they disengage. This means your muscles regain their strength naturally, just with a helping hand from the leggings. The compression helps compress tummy muscles post pregnancy while also boosting circulation from the ankle (with the leggings) or the knee (with the capris) to assist in the recovery of varicose veins or fluid retention. Comfortable, hygienic, and designed and recommended for post surgery recovery. Since these products are a medical grade form of shape wear, they are invisible under clothing and can be worn long after the initial recovery stage.

This is my favourite! I was very sceptical when I saw the picture on their website, however, after trying it, it is by far the most comfortable and most breathable. It is designed to shape to your body as opposed to a rectangular binder being wrapped around you. It is made of a light and breathable fabric, which is much better in warmer climates. The zip up design of the cinch removes the bulky velcro look under your clothes, and there is plenty of room for you to shrink and still fit into it. I was able to breastfeed and do everyday movements much more comfortably in this than any of the others. It is a little more complicated to put on, however, if you are willing and able to pay the extra, this is definitely my personal favourite. The Cinch comes in 2 styles, Signature and Couture.

Signature and Couture Cinch style differences:

  • The Signature Cinch has stronger elastic to provide even more compression/support to your abdominal area.
  • The Signature style has a pocket in the front panel so that you can insert a cold/warm compress to soothe the aches and pains that follow birth.
  • The Signature Cinch is Cool Grey colour only, whereas, the Couture Cinch comes in Nude colour only.

So which is better? They will both achieve the same results. While the stronger elastic in the Signature is obviously beneficial, the support offered by the Couture is still more than enough to help get you back to your pre-pregnancy size. So the deciding factors are more: Which colour do you prefer? and would you like to be able to insert a warm/cold compress?

Atlas 2 in 1 Maternity and Postpartum Band Review

Atlas 2 in 1

Summary

Atlas 2 in 1 Maternity and Postpartum Band

3.9/5
  • Comfort

  • Visibility
  • Longevity

The Atlas 2 in 1 band is the first of its kind and has been designed by the same creators of the Cinch. The idea behind this product is that it is a maternity support belt, which can then convert to a post pregnancy belly wrap. This product does complete this task very well, however, in order to do this, there are some sacrifices in the belly wrap. This wrap is made out of similar fabric to the original Belly Bandit and is therefore a little bit elastic/firmer feeling against the skin. The adjustability is still very good, but not has great as the Cinch. Also, this is a much wider wrap at the front, making it unsuitable for short torso people and causing a bit more of a cutting in problem than the Cinch. In saying all that, the support offered by the Atlas is still great, and given that you are getting a maternity support belt and a post pregnancy belly wrap in one, it makes it a very cost effective since you are getting 2 products in 1. The design of this wrap also makes it very discreet under clothing.

Wrap width: 27cm’s at front, tapering to 17.5cm’s at the back.

The Belly Bandits have been very well publicised and have been very popular since we introduced them to Australia in 2009. The Original Belly Bandit is the base model, and it has a firm elastic type feel against the skin. Due to a limited amount of velcro, it is quite likely that unless you are on the higher end of the size measurement, you may need to purchase 2 as you shrink. Available in Nude or Black.

The Bamboo Belly Bandit is the deluxe one in the range. It is exactly the same core as the Original, therefore providing the same support etc, however, it has a bamboo fabric outer which makes it much softer against the skin. Definitely a nicer feel if you are going to wear it for long periods of time, and also beneficial if you have a c-section, as Bamboo is naturally anti-microbial (reducing any infection chances to your wound). Limited longevity and visibility under clothing is the same as the Original. Most people who feel both the original and the Bamboo Belly Bandits, say that they would definitely spend more and get the Bamboo due to its softer feel. However, this does depend on ones budget, and both are exactly the same in every other way. Available in Nude or Black.

The BFF Belly Bandit is the most comfortable wrap that Belly Bandit has produced so far. It has been specifically designed to contour to your body shape much better. It is also a narrower wrap reducing the effects of it cutting in under your breasts as you sit down. Being the narrowest of the wraps, I particularly recommend this one for anyone who has a very short torso. There is an extra 2 inches of Velcro on the BFF Belly Bandit giving you a little more room for shrinkage than the other styles. However, does not seem quite as elastic/stretchy as the others. To put it in perspective; At 83cm around my belly button I was only just able to get the XS (69 – 82cm’s) done up so the Velcro wasn’t against my skin. It is still as obvious under clothing as the other Belly Bandits, and although it does have extra Velcro, the amount of adjustment still isn’t huge if you were on the borderline of sizes. It is not made with a Bamboo fabric, however, the natural and breathable Promodal fabric is still very nice feeling against the skin.

Wrap Width: approx 21cm’s (narrowest of all wraps)

The Shrinkx Belly is a good all round belly wrap. It offers a good level of support, is made from a breathable latex free fabric. The top and bottom edges are not rigid, which helps reduce the amount of cutting in while sitting and feeding. Available in only 2 sizes, the range of adjustment is excellent, meaning there will be little chance of needing to purchase more than one size. Due to the velcro closure, the bulkiness of the Shrinkx Belly will be very similar to that of the Belly Bandits.

Vespa and the Ladybird Belly Wrap Classic Review

Virtually identical to the Original Belly Bandit, except it has extra velcro so will fit you longer. Exactly the same in every other way. The Vespa wraps are made in China unlike the Belly Bandit which is made in the USA, and the quality may be slightly less because of it.

The Vespa and the Ladybird belly wraps are now classed as a compression garment. This means that most private health insurers will now provide a significant rebate on the purchase cost of the Vespa and the Ladybird belly wrap range. Please note; the availability and amount of the rebate will depend on the individual healthcare companies, so we recommend that you check with your insurance provider before purchasing a wrap.

Wrap width: 23cm’s

UNFORTUNATELY the Vespa & the Ladybird belly wrap is now no longer manufactured.
